Opening the Prosperous Door

Activating the Prosperous Facing Star of a Period is also referred to as Opening the Prosperous Door. It simply involves identifying the location of the Wang Qi Facing Star and literally opening a door in that location. This enables the residents to tap into the wealth Qi that is promoted by the Star.

Keep in mind that you are not limited to just the 8-White Star. If your main door is located in the sectors with the 9-Purple or 1-White Facing Stars, you will benefit from these as well.

If your main door is located in a sector with any of the negative Stars, however, you should seriously consider using a different door as the main door if it is possible, or even updating the Period of your home if the update chart would be more beneficial. Activating a 5-Yellow Facing Star with the main door is a very serious problem.

Using a Water Feature Instead of a Door

Now suppose that for whatever reason, your main door is located in a sector where the Facing Star is untimely, but not especially negative (6-White, for example), and you can't change the main door. If this is the case, you will need to activate one of the timely Facing Stars with a water feature, if possible. Note that it isn't necessary to activate ALL of the Facing Stars. Activating one of them well is good enough.

Locating water features can be tricky. First of all, there are considerations that go beyond Flying Star Feng Shui, such as the Direct Spirit/Indirect Spirit formula. In general, it is reasonably safe to use a water feature in the southeast, north or east sectors if the Facing Stars are appropriate. It is even better to use Water in the southwest if you can, since that also activates the Indirect Spirit for the current Period.

When using water features, it is necessary to make sure you have enough water to do the job. Using something like a vase full of water or a tabletop water fountain is OK to activate the 4-Green Star or maybe drain the effects of the 7-Red Star, but it is not enough to activate a Facing Star with Yang energy. For this you will need a good-sized aquarium if you must locate the water feature indoors. If this is the case, the top of the aquarium should be left open, so that the water is exposed to the air. It doesn't matter how many fish are in the tank (or if there even are any fish), but the aquarium should be kept clean and the water should be circulated with a pump and air bubbler.

An even better solution is to use a water feature outdoors, like a fish pond. Again, the pond must be kept clean, with a healthy ecosystem to be effective. It should be at least 2 1/2 feet deep and hold a significant volume of water to be effective. When locating external water features, you should use the 8-pie-wedge system to calculate the directions. See the Direction vs. Location lesson for a refresher. An alternative external idea would be to use a large barrel or planter pot with a fountain pump inside. Again, there should be a significant depth and volume of water to do the trick, and the water should be kept fresh and moving at all times.

By following these rules, you will be able to enhance your wealth and career potential with Feng Shui. The rest of your income potential relies upon your individual efforts and choices, and your destiny. In the next lesson we will discuss using Feng Shui in the bedroom (or other Yin areas of the home) to benefit your health.
