8-White Star Feng Shui Logo

In a Natal Flying Star chart, there will be three numbers in each Palace of the grid. The Star that occupies the lower center position is called the Base Star. Many practitioners of Flying Star Feng Shui don't factor the Base Star into their calculations, and at this level we will ignore it for now. The numbers we will analyze are called the Facing Star and the Sitting Star.

The Facing Star

The Facing Star occupies the upper right corner of each sector, and is sometimes called the "Water Star". This is technically not correct terminology, but you will see it used in some Feng Shui resources.

The Facing Star governs wealth and career-related aspects of peoples' lives. Facing Stars are Yang by nature and they are activated by activity, movement and the presence of water. Open spaces, low-lying ground, doors and pathways also influence Facing Stars, since all are considered Yang features.

Ideally, the main door of the house should be located where the Prosperous (Wang) Qi Star is present as the Facing Star. This means that whatever sector contains the 8-White Facing Star should ideally also contain the main door. Generally speaking, an external water formation can also activate the 8-White Facing Star, but care must be taken when placing water features, since there are other factors to consider. It is safest to use activity instead at the beginning stages. The 9-Purple and 1-White Facing Stars can be similary activated. On the other hand, in sectors where negative Stars like 5-Yellow occupy the Facing Star position, it is best to avoid activity, doors or water features. This helps prevent the activation of the negative Qi.

The Sitting Star

The Sitting Star occupies the upper left corner of each sector. Similarly to the use of "Water Star" as a term to refer to the Facing Star, the Sitting Star is sometimes called the "Mountain Star".

The Sitting Star regulates health and relationship issues. Sitting Stars are Yin by nature and are activated by mountains or other higher ground features, inactivity, quiet and calmness.

The 8-White, 9-Purple and 1-White Sitting Stars are best utilized by placing a bedroom or other quiet area in the sectors they inhabit. External mountains or tall buildings can also help activate these Stars. When the positive Sitting Stars are activated, health and relationships will benefit. As with the Facing Stars, it is best not to activate negative Sitting Stars with inactivity or external Mountain forms.
