We moved into Period 8 in the year 2004. Consequently, many books written about Feng Shui began to suggest that it was necessary to "upgrade" one's home to reset the Period of the home to 8 in order to have good luck in this cycle. This idea is flawed, and depending upon the facing direction of the house, could even cause major problems to the home's Feng Shui. It is not necessary to change your home's Period when the world enters a new Period. If you draw up the old Natal chart of your home and a Natal chart if your home's Period was changed, and the new chart is significantly better than the old one, maybe it would be worth upgrading. Otherwise, why go to the considerable effort and expense? After all, the amount of renovation necessary to reset a home's Period is extereme -- new roof, new flooring, new main door, paint on all the walls, etc. The roof must be completely removed, and left off for a minimum to two weeks, or at the first rainfall, whichever happens later. This means that the interior of the home will be exposed to the elements, including rain, at least once. In addition, the flooring must be removed to the extent that the ground the house is built upon is exposed. This allows the Heaven Qi from the sky to join anew to the Earth Qi below the home with no barriers in between. Finally, the main door must be replaced. Ideally, it would also be relocated, if necessary, to a sector with an 8-White, 9-Purple or 1-White Facing Star. So as you can see, changing a home's Period is not something to be undertaken without a very good reason.
The reality of the situation is that most of the time, an existing Natal chart is fine when the Period changes. It just needs to be interpreted differently, to accomodate the Timeliness factor of the Flying Stars.
Another popular misconception is that license plates or house numbers that include the number "8" are suddenly lucky. This isn't really a part of classical Feng Shui, and from an authentic Feng Shui perspective, these factors have no effect at all. Numbers in Xuan Kong Feng Shui are simply used to identify types of Qi, nothing more.
