Continuing on from the previous lesson, you should now have a Luo Shu diagram for your property with the Base Stars filled in for all of the Palaces, and the Facing and Sitting Stars filled in for the Central Palace. Unlike the Base Star, the Facing Star and Sitting Star can fly in either ascending (Yang) order, or descending (Yin) order. The order depends upon two factors: Whether the Star is an even number or an odd number, and the specific sub-direction your property faces.
Even-numbered Stars follow a Yin-Yang-Yang pattern. This means that if the subdirection is 1, the numbers fly in Yin (descending) order. For subdirections 2 or 3, the numbers fly in Yang (ascending) order.
Odd-numbered Stars other than 5 follow a Yang-Yin-Yin pattern. This means that if the subdirection is 1, the numbers fly Yang (in ascending order). For subdirections 2 and 3, the numbers fly Yin (in descending order).
The exception to the above odd-numbered Star rule is number 5. Because 5 occupies the center of the original Luo Shu, and is not associated with a direction or a Trigram, it has no predictable nature. To determine the polarity of the 5 Star, you go by the polarity of the Period number. So if a 5 Star occupies the Central Palace during Period 7 it acts like an odd number, but if a 5 Star occupies the Central Palace during Period 8 it acts like an even number.
Once you have determined the polarity of the Facing and Sitting Stars, fly them according to the Luo Shu Path in the indicated direction. You have now plotted the Natal Flying Star chart of your property!
The final step of this process is to shift the chart to match the facing of your property, in order to faciliate analysis. To do this, you shift the Palaces around so that the facing palace occupies the middle square of the top row of the Luo Shu grid. Be very careful when doing this, and don't forget to fill in the Central Palace Stars.
Now that we have covered the steps for creating a Natal Flying Star chart, you should practice repeatedly until the process is very clear to you. Take your time and work methodically. In the next lesson we will begin discussing how to interpret the numbers of the chart.
