8-White Star Feng Shui Logo

The "Stars" in Flying Star Feng Shui refer to bodies of Qi. Each Star has inherent qualities, but because Qi changes over time, the qualities of the Stars can also change over time (refer back to the Qualities of Qi lesson for a refresher). This is the concept of Timeliness.

Phases of the Stars

The most powerful Star in each Period is the Star the shares the same number as the Period itself. This is called the Wang Qi ("Prosperous Qi") Star. The current Wang Qi Star is 8-White. Of all nine of the Stars, this is the best one to tap into.

The Sheng Qi ("Growth Qi") Stars are also beneficial to tap into. In each Period, the Sheng Qi Stars are those with the next two successive numbers, so the current Sheng Qi Stars are 9-Purple and 1-White. 9-Purple represents future prosperity, and 1-White represents distant future prosperity.

The Tui Qi ("Retreating Qi") Star is the Star with the number that precedes the number of the current Period. This Star has Qi that is waning and growing weaker. The current Tui Qi Star is 7-Red.

Sha Qi ("Killing Qi") Stars, as the name suggests, are very serious and should be avoided if possible. The current Sha Qi Stars are 5-Yellow, 4-Green and 3-Jade.

Inherent Star Qualities

Generally speaking, the White Stars, 1, 6 and 8 are benevolent. In the current Period, the 1-White and 8-White Stars are timely, so these benevolent qualities come through. 6-White, however, is untimely, so it does not as readily express its benevolent qualities.

The 4-Green and 9-Purple Stars are neutral by nature. Since 9-Purple is timely, it is currently exerting its positive qualities. Since 4-Green is untimely in the current Period, its effect is more negative in nature.

Finally, the 5-Yellow, 2-Black, 3-Jade and 7-Red Stars are negative by nature. All of these Stars are also untimely in the current Period, so the negative qualities are amplified.
